When you first try to put together a band, you have multiple personalities, varied musical tastes, and all sorts of unforeseen things which get in the way of any longevity that is originally hoped for. But a group of close friends in the Elsea Smith Band has beaten the odds like no other. They are not just a band, but a group of very close friends who have known each other since grade school, and have managed to keep those friendships through an amazing 33 years of playing music!
The original group was established in 1977, with Randy Davis, Les Holder, David Shewmaker, and Larry Voth. Originally playing 'current' music of the time, which has since turned into 'classic rock'.
Their music has gone through several phases since the early days. Several original songs have surfaced by each of the founding members, as well as covers of country, rock, and blues.
Since 1977, some of the personnel has changed. Different drummers, keyboard players, and guitarists have come and gone - all great friends as well! However, during these changes, the initial core group remained steadfast until early 2010 when one of the founding members, David Shewmaker, decided to leave the group to pursue other interests. David has been a life long friend and a great harp player. He will be missed - but not forgotten! Keyboard player Randy Kassen, who has also been friends of the core group since childhood has joined the group to help fill the void since David's departure.
The past several years they have played in numerous clubs as well as private parties and music festivals in the area. Their first CD, "Further Up the Road", was released in 2004. Their second CD, "Smile and Wave", was released in May of 2008, and is a recording of original tunes.
When you hear the Elsea Smith Band, your're listening to good friends having a good time, and playing a good variety of music!
Come on out and enjoy an evening with us.
